We're 5 months along!

Hello everybody! We're back in Texas after a long, relaxing Christmas week.

Baby Crawford is doing great. His/her lips, eyelids and eyebrows are becoming more distinct. BC's also getting some little tooth buds underneath his gums.

So at 22 weeks (and 4 days), baby Crawford is a little older than the youngest baby known to have survived outside the womb. The picture on the left is her little almost-22-week-old feet! This just amazes me!

I am getting impatient for more frequent kicking, but at least I feel baby move every day, usually a couple different times. It's good to get a daily reminder that he's still in there!

Love,
Sarah, JC and 1 lb baby

21 weeks

We're 21 weeks now and feeling great! Baby BC is 10 1/2 inches long now and weighs 3/4 of a pound - supposedly the length of a carrot this week. (But a carrot doesn't seem very cute and cuddly, actually rather pokey, so I don't like to think of him/her as a carrot.)

JC and I are heading to Atlanta tonight for Christmas to visit this blog's biggest fans. It's exciting to think we're on track to have a 7-month-old (prime gerber baby age) next year and graduate to Santa!
Hope everyone has a Merry Christmas!

halfway there!

Today I am 20 weeks pregnant - the halfway point! Baby is the size of a banana this week.

You may be wondering how our baby grew from a tomato or bell pepper in the last couple weeks to a banana. This week doctors start measuring the baby from head to toe, instead of head to "rump" - mainly because babies start stretching out more and it becomes a better indicator of how big they actually are.

On another note, the boy votes (on the poll to the right) finally caught up with the girl votes this week. I guess it is a 50-50 shot!

baby's on the move!

I'm really noticing BC moving around now! Just today I've felt him a few different times. It's like an eye twitch - involuntary, weird movement you can't foresee or control. I'm totally loving it!! As if I needed something else to kick my baby excitement up another notch...
Oh, and Dad, my most faithful blog commenter - I'm pretty sure this time it's not the 4 pounds of turkey and 3 pies I consumed over Thanksgiving.

19 week update

Awkward moment yesterday - when taking a professional Free Market staff picture, the flamboyant photographer pointed at me and said, "hey blue (referencing my shirt color), your jacket is puckering." Hey buddy, I'm pregnant, so BACK OFF!

I do appreciate the fact that I'm not knocking over people when I walk by and everything, but I am in that awkward beer gut stage. Pregnancy is funny that way - you feel hungover, fat, but haven't had a drink in four months!

But seriously, I'm doing great and not feeling hungover anymore. And besides gaining 12 pounds (CRAP!!!!!) in 4 months, I don't feel too fat.

We had our monthly Dr. appt. today! Baby is 8 ounces and all organs, etc. look great on the sonogram. We got some very cute profile shots but they aren't 3D, so it's not anything to cry with joy over compared to last week.

Thanks for reading!

kick?

I might have felt a kick last night! I don't know for sure; it might have been my tummy rumbling. I know this happens for all pregnant women at some point, but it still is blowing my mind.
Don't worry, I will keep you updated. :)

our little munchkin...

BC is really in there, doing jumping jacks, kicking, squirming, and punching everywhere! We saw it with our own eyes yesterday and it is probably the coolest thing I've ever experienced.
I scanned in all of the great pics, but unfortunately a lot of them turned out darker and grainier in the scanner. Here's our favorite, though!

Just look at that cute little arm and fist curled up around his face, and his knee tucked up to his chest! I love the little ear, too.
Apparently he sleeps every 20 minutes (he started to fall asleep during the ultrasound and the nurse was bouncing on my tummy to wake him up, haha!). He's about the size of an onion this week - 5 inches.
Thanks for keeping up with us, and Happy Thanksgiving!

Bonus!

So, the exec. director of the Dallas Pregnancy Resource Center called today with a work-related question. I know her (and I knew she'd be excited - she's dedicated her life to the unborn!), so I told her I was expecting. She said, oh - you have to come in for a sonogram! Apparently they like to do those for "ministry partners" and friends of their organization. We're scheduled for Monday to get a 3D one - just in time to show our families for Thanksgiving! Yay!!!

Guacamole!

Baby Crawford is an avocado this week! And most of mommy Crawford's pants won't button. Especially after eating. We're making progress!

BC is pumping on average 25 quarts of blood every day now. Wow! Here's probably what our cutie looks like now. If only we could take a real look!

Apple

We a good doctor's appt. today and got to hear baby's heartbeat at a strong 152 beats/minute. And, our ultrasound is scheduled for December 5th! The gender is supposed to be apparent then, but as you know, we're going to keep ourselves in suspense.

Last week, BC was the size of a lemon, and on Friday, our baby will be about the size of an apple!

Baby is dancing around inside me and making facial expressions, even though I can't feel any of it (he is still small and has plenty of room to move around in there). Although, maybe I can! We joke that all my hiccups are from little BC totally head-butting my diaphram. That little squirt!

13 weeks, 3 days update

  • Baby has fingerprints this week!!
  • I'm starting to remember what "normal" feels like! I didn't need any naps this weekend.
  • I'm wearing maternity pants for the first time today. oh my gosh, they feel incredible - I recommend them to everyone - pregnant or not.
  • In case anyone else wondered, next Dr. appt. is Nov. 5. Probably won't get ultrasound, but maybe we'll get to hear that thundering heartbeat again!

first picture

When I saw other sonograms pre-preggers, I was like, interesting! a little smudge. Now, I actually think it's cool. This is the most awesome little smudge I've ever seen!

This picture was taken six weeks ago, when BC was a little over six weeks "old."

Being pregnant

So, about being pregnant.

Cons:
- Hearing about the gross things that will happen to me.*
- I can't drink, but I ALWAYS feel hungover (at least thus far; I'm holding out hope for the 2nd trimester)

Pros:
- 300 calories extra a day!!**
- Telling people I'm preggers and having them burst into happy tears (thanks, mom, maggie, mubber! and even dad a little bit?)
- Ummm, A BABY***

*I know it's a "beautiful" process, but seriously, it's not all beautiful.
**Not like I'm counting, but it still seems like a plus.
***This point outweighs all the other ones... but maybe that goes without saying? :)

We're Expecting!

Yes, it's true! We are expecting our first baby May 1, 2009 and are so excited to start a family! We call our little one "BC" for baby Crawford, and he/she is almost 12 weeks along. About the size of a fig with tiny fingers, toes and a strong beating heart, we're pretty sure BC's going to be the cutest and smartest kid around.

Oh, and we're not going to find out whether we're having a boy or girl or reveal any potential names until the delivery! Sorry if that sounds torturous to you, but we think this is going to be the most awesome and fun surprise ever!
